The Montana name derives from earlier times with Montana Restaurant established in Victoria St Hamilton in 1965.
The culture of innovation and expansion were evident when in 1988 ‘out catering’ was added to the menu. The introduction of professional rugby in 1996 lead to a sea change with Montana entrusted with the original corporate hospitality at Hamilton’s Rugby Park, for the inaugural Chiefs UBix Super 12 season. The construction of what is now FMG Stadium Waikato during 2001, opening in 2002, was the catalyst for the new company’s birth.
Montana Catering 2001 Ltd, trading as Montana Catering, was based at Waikato Stadium from its opening and continues to be the resident caterer. In 2011, with the successful tendering for the catering rights to the refurbished Claudelands Events Centre, head office and a new catering operation was launched at this new venue.
Success in the tender for the University of Auckland’s catering services, in 2014, precipitated the creation of Montana Catering Auckland Ltd. Under the Flame Tree Kitchen brand the University’s Halls, Conferences, Functions and Retail operations were managed. The launch of Montana Food and Events for full corporate and private catering in the Auckland market was established in mid-2018, linked to the new partnership with Auckland Zoo.
In 2018 we evolved our name to Montana Food and Events to emphasise our continued focus on our Food being the defining difference, plus highlighting our expertise at Event Management.
